Oli Brann Turner
Oli (they/them) is a puppeteer/video editor from Baltimore City whose work centers around topics of death, grief, nostalgia, the body, and all its’ traumas. They enjoy creating multi-media/found footage/analog horror work that evokes a sense of dread, haunting, and the feeling of having been cursed. They also enjoy work that is surreal and experimental and most of the time nonsensical in nature.
Oli grew up making puppets with their Oma and Opa whose influence is integral to their work. They attended the Baltimore School for the Arts for theatre performance and the University of Maryland for their B.A. in Theatre, B.A. in Chinese, and M.A. in Theatre & Performance Studies with an emphasis in puppetry studies. They are honored to have studied performance from Professor Caroline Stefanie Clay, Dr. Walter Dallas, Professor Izumi Ashizawa, Peter & Elka Schumann of Bread & Puppet Theatre, and Han Zaifen / Yao MeiMei of the Zaifen Huangmei Opera Arts Company.
Oli’s favorite horror film inspirations are: Session 9, Skinamarink, The Blair Witch Project, Bride of Chucky, Pulse, The WNUF Halloween Special, Begotten and The Ring.
